Post # 336, Bob McKnight's Florida Commentary
Trump is still innocent unless and until proven guilty by his peers, after the exhaustion of all appeals.
I have never gone out of my way to praise former President Donald Trump. The reason is that I do not believe he is a good person deserving of public support. I think he is a liar and without redeeming qualities. So readers may find this post surprising. It is not about Trump but the brilliance of our government and democracy.
Donald Trump is a convicted felon, twice impeached, indicted, and a defeated former President. But he is wealthy and very clever. He has a loyal base of support, without regard for his problems. His base will support him under all circumstances. That includes sending him money, and lots of it.
So putting aside personal feelings about Trump, the fact that he can be charged with hundreds of crimes and still run for the highest office in the land shows the extraordinary freedom we have in America. It is at times hard to understand how an American cannot serve in our Army as a convicted felon but can serve as the Commander and Chief of our armed forces. As an American with money, Trump can get the best lawyers to represent him, he can use our courts, laws, and regulations to test and question all charges for an undetermined time. The cardinal principle of innocent unless proven guilty is the heart of Donald Trump's defense. He does not seem to appreciate the brilliance of that principle, but it is truly a miracle serving him.
Do I believe the administration of his criminal charges will win out in the end? Yes, even with this Supreme Court and other judges he appointed. It has taken over four years thus far and may take more. The evidence appears to be there and seems that it will be proven over time. It will take Trump's fortunes and may take his physical life. The country will survive Trump and his crimes because America is still a country based on freedoms proven over time.
Only in America.
