"Trump's ambush was subtle as cellophane."
As of this writing, the world is trying to understand what will happen next after the Trump/Vance ambush of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the White House last week. Since Trump obviously planned the ambush to make maximum press coverage, everyone knows what happened.
According to pro-Trump FOX News, the blowup started over an important security agreement between Ukraine and the United States against Russia. The consideration was America's access to Ukraine's valuable minerals. Zelenskyy indicated in advance the security agreement was a non-negotiable point, and Trump said nothing to the contrary prior to their meeting last week. When arriving to sign the agreement, a stunned Zelenskyy objected. It was noted that Trump expected that and staged the charade by he and Vice President J.D. Vance to suggest that the Ukraine President had not thanked the United States--which he had repeatedly. By then yelling at Zelenskyy, Trump, and Vance thought they could paint the breakdown as the result of Zelenskyy's behavior. Most of the press saw right through the flimsy and failed ambush. As planned Senator Lindsey Graham and other GOP chimed in as part of the charade.
To this writer, Trump now has our country completely aligned with Russia taking on our former European allies in a potential war. Trump confirmed this in a shocking United Nations vote, for the first time in history. In the term of a couple of months, our President has pardoned thousands of felons convicted of attacking our Capitol and now has in effect declared war against our allies. He has fully aligned the United States with his business partner, Vladimir Putin. With a smattering of exceptions, the GOP Congress has cowardly looked the other way or echoed Trump's support of Russia, which is shocking.
The next major action will probably be litigation by the Democrats and other Americans to block what Trump is doing. Normally, that would be a routine check and balance against what Trump is proposing, but with his appointment of like-thinking Judges, the outcome is very much at risk.
It is hard to believe anyone could turn our country's greatest allies into a possible foe in war while aligning us with our greatest enemy in less than 60 days. Donald Trump has done in a little over one month.
