Post # 372, Bob McKnight's Florida Commentary
Trump Supporters and the GOP Congress are saying nothing while our country slides into recession and malaise.
In his 2024 campaign, Donald Trump said he was going to raise tariffs to record numbers, continue supporting Putin and Russia over democracy, and said American workers under Biden were playing too much golf instead of returning to their offices. He has been a man of his word.
After three months, inflation is back and we have lost trillions in the stock market. while Trump attacks freedom in NATO and Ukraine. He freed January 6 police killers, and is back cheating on his golf course. While all this is happening, our GOP members of Congress are stone silent. Since Trump knows very little about our Federal government, as demonstrated in his first term, he has brought in a master terminator, Elon Musk, to cut the budget to cover the massive tax cuts for the rich in progress. The other major hose job from Trump is directed at minorities--people of color, gender, and religion. To counter the outrage, Trump has paraded a handful of high-profile followers like Tiger Woods, Florida Congressman Donald, and actor Jon Voight. The demonstrators over the weekend showed the feelings of thousands of angry Americans. This is a real test of our democracy and America.
According to current polls, many Americans frustrated with Biden's failures who voted for Trump are having second thoughts. Their position is easy to understand. Biden offended most Americans by forgiving student debt, which was paid by others. Vice President Harris missed the mark by pushing handouts rather than jobs. And anyone could understand the message of the cost of eggs at the grocery. The ambivalent voters understandably were willing to try anything.
But now that our worst fears have been met, it is time for all good Americans to return to the center. Nothing can be done with Trump, but that is not the case with Congress. Demand independence of the legislative branch as you look at the upcoming mid-term elections. That is what the framers of our government had in mind to balance our government, when out of kilter. It may not be an exaggeration to say that the future of our country is at risk.
